This is just one year after it's creation!

And next "the field" in it's raw state, but before we go, to get your bearings for the transformation, note the gap between the two trees and the view beyond...

Take a blank field...

And a lot of "know how"...

All 100% man-made, but with absolutely no trace of liner anywhere. But of course a lot of this effect is created by how we plant it.
(PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ALSO RENOVATE/TRANSFORM/REPLANT/DE-SLUDGE EXISTING PONDS TOO)!
And how we plant it is determined by knowing how to dig it out (see the next amateur/"professional" example) to create natural planting environments in the first place!

Guaranteed to hold water for 25 to 45 years depending on how we line it.

Unlike the next image...

This was done by "a local man with a digger". And we hear that saying very often, followed by "it seemed like a good/cheap idea at the time as we had the builders in", or words to that effect!

Levels all wrong, impossible to plant and never could it hold water even for 25 days let alone...25 years!!!

Impossible to plant? Well more on that later, but how you dig it determines how you can plant it or not as the case may be!

I mentioned that we would be working on "two fields", well here's the second one...

That's a bit of a challenge! But here's what we created...

Again designed and dug out to make it appear to belong there!

Too many people...Builders, Non-Specialist Garden Landscapers, and "the man down the road with a digger"...dig out supposedly, naturalistic ponds, the same way as they dig any sort of hole, and you can't do that.

You cannot dig out a hole on an "industrial" scale and hope that it will end up looking natural...but of course many people are able to turn a blind eye to that, and pretend that they don't really mind that masses of industrial liner is showing above the water line in what was supposed to be a "Natural Pond". Really!

Before we move on note the grassy hill in the background, and also the deck of the Summerhouse...

And there's the hill again. And with all of those 1 metre high nettles gone you can really see the challenge...how to create a large natural looking pond on a slope?

Easy really when you "know how"...

This is the same "field"

With a view from the deck of the "Summerhouse"...and again, next, as it was in it's virgin state...

But interestingly being around the back of a Lake District mountain range, the climate changes very quickly, but a natural pond...a REALLY "natural" looking pond that is, is a thing of beauty whatever the weather...

Here it is again, and from a very revealing view...no sign, no clue whatsoever, that it's man-made.

It sits perfectly in the landscape, no sign of building up anywhere.

The art is in the visual blending...naturally!!!
